The museum broke ground on a new location outside the gate to Edwards Air Force Base in March 2018. Following site preparation, the first concrete was poured in May 2020.

Phase 1

Construction of the foundation was completed in May 2020 and the second phase started.

Phase 2

The superstructure of the 75,000 sq. ft. Hangar and Exhibition Hall was erected in September 2022. Phase 2 will be completed with the hanger doors, roof, and superstructure cladding planned for 2024/2025 funds permitting.

Phase 3

Opening of the galleries. The new museum will focus on the experimental and prototype aircraft that have a specific connection with Edwards Air Force Base. The main goal is to protect and preserve the historical and extremely rare aircraft inside the new museum, away from the damaging outside elements – safe for future generations.

It will also include unique personal items of the experimental test pilots who flew there. In addition there is planned a special exhibit on the life and times of the aviatrix Pancho Barnes whose Happy Bottom Riding Club had a special connection with Edwards AFB. Finally and importantly, special consideration will be given to lecture halls and a library that will contribute to a STEM education Center.
