LOUIS F. D’ELIA, PH.D.
NEUROPSYCHOLOGIST (RET)

Dr. Louis F. D’Elia is a clinical neuropsychologist with a distinguished career spanning clinical geroneuropsychology, academia, and aerospace consulting. He completed his Ph.D at UCLA and two NIMH postdoctoral training fellowships in Clinical Geropsychology and Clinical Neuropsychology at the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine.

Retired from clinical practice in 2017, Dr. D’Elia had private practice offices in Santa Monica and Pasadena, California while concurrently serving on the faculty of the Geffen-UCLA School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. He also was Co-Director of the Neuropsychology Assessment Laboratory, Geffen-UCLA School of Medicine. His research contributions include over 30 peer-reviewed publications on aging and cognitive function, as well as the development of widely used neuropsychological assessment tools. He is the co-author of Handbook of Normative Data for Neuropsychological Assessment (Oxford University Press).

Beyond his academic and clinical work, Dr. D’Elia has provided expert consultation for major aerospace companies, including Lockheed, Boeing, and Rockwell International, as well as for the World Health Organization. His long-standing involvement in historical preservation, the arts and community service include serving on advisory and honorary boards for institutions such as the California Heritage Museum and the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery Support Foundation. Dr. D’Elia previously served on the board of directors of the Flight Test Historical Foundation for sixteen years (2006 – 2022).

Dr. D’Elia is also the custodian of the estate and archive of legendary aviatrix Pancho Barnes, ensuring the preservation of her legacy and contributions to aviation history. His passion for aviation, history, and scientific advancement makes him a valuable asset to the Flight Test Historical Foundation, where he is committed to honoring the rich heritage of Edwards Air Force Base and its role in aerospace innovation.
